Big fans of Aussie starlet Jessica Mauboy and soul divas Ms Murphy and Diana Rouvas might recognise the woman in the photo.
Her name is Gazele. Though she may have graced the stage of ‘The X Factor’ in years past, more recently, she’s been more than ably providing backing vocals for the aforementioned trio.
But today, she steps out of the background and into the spotlight, releasing the lead single from her forthcoming EP ‘LoveLife’.
The track’s called ‘On My Mind’ and it’s an oh-so-interesting beast. It’s decidedly pop, with a stylistic nod to her African heritage, ’80s influences, horns and utterly infectious choruses, all helmed by Gazele’s supremely soulful vocal. And pop purists will no doubt appreciate the little surprise that arrives just before the three minute mark (and again just after the 3:15 mark). It’s so joyful.
Along with a smooth and totally danceable Divy Pota remix, the single is released today.
The full ‘LoveLife’ EP release hits on Thursday June 18, along with a free launch event at Rock Lily at The Star in Sydney from 7:30pm.
