Pop aficionados who love their ’90s pop will remember the name Claire Richards as being 20% of British pop phenomenon Steps.
The band scored its first ever No.1 single right here in Australia – with their debut single ‘5, 6, 7, 8′ and hit the top ten again with their covers of both The Bee Gees’ ‘Tragedy’ and Bananarama’s ‘Last Thing On My Mind’.
Though the band hasn’t been doing much since that better best forgotten Christmas album from a couple of years back, Claire is ready to confidently stride into the solo sphere and she reportedly stole the show at the ‘Pete Waterman : A Life In Song’ show, held in London last night, with her stirring cover of one of Steps’ biggest hits, ‘One For Sorrow’.
Produced by none other than the fabulous Mister Steve Anderson (Kylie’s long-time collaborator), it’s raw, stripped back and takes the song in a completely different direction than the 1998 original, which scraped the top 40 down under.
