It you need any indication as to how fickle the music industry is – or, indeed, how quickly it moves on, you only need to take a look at John Newman’s last single ‘Come And Get It’.
Though, yes, it was a top five hit over in the UK – and in Scotland – it failed to make an impact anywhere else in the world, despite his breakout smash ‘Love Me Again’ hitting its strides in virtually every country globally just two years prior.
With his sophomore album ‘Revolve’ coming up for release in October, there will no doubt be plenty riding on John’s new single ‘Tiring Game’ to turn the ship around.
All the elements are there… an uplifting groove, plenty of soul, a gospel choir (we’re suckers for a gospel choir) and a video clip that looks like one big celebration from beginning to end.
But bizarrely, it feels more like it should be a Charlie Wilson ftg. John Newman song, not the other way ’round.
