• It’s not going to be long now before Adelaide native Tkay Maidza is a massive global superstar. On the local front, she continues to sell out her final Aussie tour for the year (adding a new Melbourne show to proceedings – October 04 at the Corner Hotel), but on the international front, she’s just received a massive leg up, thanks to being named as the support act for Rita Ora’s three US tour dates this week. Tkay will also appear at the This That, Beyond The Valley, Lost Paradise and Meredith Music festivals across the summer.
• The peeps at Onelove have launched their very own talent agency. CEO Frank Cotela says, “It’s been set up to utilize our broad network of touring, PR & music industry contacts from around the world, to provide ONELOVE recording acts with touring support both locally and abroad. The aim here is to avoid overcrowding and the ‘one size fits all’ model in order to focus on a boutique artist roster.” The first artist signed to the agency is Onelove resident DJ Generik.
• A new Tony Bennett album is on the horizon. Entitled ‘The Silver Lining’, the LP celebrates the songs of Academy Award-winning composer Jerome Kern, who was behind a slew of classic songs from musicals and theatre productions of the early 20th Century. It’s out here in Australia on Friday September 25.
• Tame Impala have confirmed they’ll visit a few of the country’s most celebrated outdoor amphitheatres later this year as part of the ‘Currents’ national tour. • And Aussie duo Falls will release their debut album ‘Omaha’ on October 02. And it seems they’re making all the right connections, with their latest single ‘Let In The Light’ recently being premiered by none other than the Wall Street Journal. Get them! “The songs on the album are really inspired by the whirlwind of the past couple years, and the sense of longing that’s come with uprooting ourselves like that,” Melinda Kirwin of the band says. “Everything happened so quickly and it’s all been so exciting, but there are those moments when you realize what you’ve left behind and all the things that were left unsaid.”
