British indie outfit Bloc Party will be one of the first acts to release a new album in the new year, confirming that their fifth studio album, ‘Hymns’, will be released in late January.
To be made available in standard and deluxe CD and digital formats, along with a limited edition deluxe double vinyl version, the first taste of ‘Hymns’ came earlier this month with the opening track ‘The Love Within’, which is available as a grat track to those who pre-order the album digitally.
As far as the album’s contents are concerned, however, the big clue is in the title of the album – and our story.
“I grew up in a religious house so I’m fully aware of the imagery, but I’m not Christian,” says lead vocalist Kele. “It’s not something I subscribe to. The first music I ever heard was hymns at school. I started to think, if I was going to make music that had a spiritual dimension, that was sacred to me and to the things that I held important, how would I do it?”
And in addition to their appearances at both the Falls and Southbound Music Festivals, the band has revealed headline shows in both Sydney and Melbourne during their visit; January 05 at the Forum Theatre in Melbourne and January 07 at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney.
No doubt they’ll treat live audiences to tracks from the LP, which will be released in Australia on Friday January 29.
