Last year, this young man from coastal Victoria had Kylie Minogue’s eyelids fluttering like they were caught in a cyclone as part of a national TV talent contest.
17 months on and, with a record deal with Universal Music Australia now under his belt, former drummer Johnny Rollins is stepping into the spotlight solo, with his debut single ‘High’.
Combining the swoonsome-soft vocals that had Ms Minogue cooing, along with a distinct pop sensibility and catchy chorus, thanks to Evermore’s Jon Hume, the song may represent a slight departure in sound for the singer, but it’s also a step right into the heart of the mainstream, where radio additions await.
“It’s a good representation of where I’m at and where I’ve come from as a musician,” the singer says of ‘High’. “It’s definitely a different spin on what people typically expect to hear from me. I’m veering a little further out from the r’n’b laneway and it’s got a more catchy, electric pop sound to it.”
The video is expected to drop tomorrow – the same day the single drops at your favourite digital retailer.
