Credit where it’s due, the Russians continue to offer up some totally impressive pop numbers as part of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Last year’s entry (Polina Gagarina’s stunning ‘A Million Voices’) placed first in her semi final and was runner-up to Måns Zelmerlöw’s ‘Heroes’ in the Grand Final. Russia finished 7th in 2014 and 5th in 2013.
With Sergey Lazarev’s ‘You Are The Only One’, they stand a very good chance of finishing at the pointy end of the competition again.
The singer, whose appeal to the Eurovision audience is evident from the opening scenes of the official video (below) already has a successful recording career under his belt in his homeland, but this is the first time he’s been sent to Eurovision, with the hope of taking the competition to Russia in 2017.
Comparisons to Måns’ single are easy… he’s handsome, it’s a dance song with an uplifting chorus and there’s plenty of CGI for him to interact with in the clip. Whether this latter part of the package is replicated in Stockholm in May remains to be seen, but Russia will sail through the semis and will place highly in the Grand Final on May 14.
