The last time we caught up with Kids At Midnight (aka Melbourne singer/songwriter/producer Jane Elizabeth Hanley), she’d just dropped her latest single ‘Electrified’ and was finishing up work on her next EP.
We can now report, however, that after lots of blood, sweat and tears, that EP (‘The Survivors’ EP) finally arrived at digital retail yesterday.
“I wrote and recorded these songs around the same time almost two years ago, but I had a hard-drive crash of epic proportions and lost absolutely everything,” Jane admits. “I had no program files, no stems, no parts, no nothing. All that was left was a few last versions of tracks I’d bounced-down to send to a friend.”
She set a couple of those “bounced-down” songs (‘Survival’ and ‘Electrified’) into the ether to a rapturous response, so she quickly began work on a handful of songs that would ultimately join them on an EP.
New single ‘Silence’ is one of those songs.
“‘Silence’ is about all the things you wish you could say to someone when you’re a emotionally stunned,” she explains. “How the words, sounds and feelings can fill a entire world inside your head, but you’re completely lost trying to find a way to say something – you are basically stuck in silence.”
Take a listen below. And grab the aptly-named ‘The Survivors’ EP at digital retail now.
