Swedish singer songwriter Mavrick has us wrapped around his little finger with his new single ‘Funeral’, which dropped to digital platforms across the planet on Friday.
And you know that, given it’s from Sweden, it’s going to be pretty damned good.
The highly anticipated follow-up to his widely praised, frenetic debut single ‘Remedy’, there’s a familiarity to its sound; a decidedly mid-’80s tinge like something from the Level 42 back catalogue, with a great big, soaring chorus.
And it’s quite different sonically to its predecessor. “But get used to it because I never want one song to sound like the other,” the singer says in a statement.
“I want the listener to think of my music as fresh and new, but I also want them to hear it in ten years time and still think it’s a good song,” he continues.
“That’s down to their timeless pop melodies. I’ve always wanted to do pop music but I never wanted it to be regular, straightforward pop.”
‘Funeral’ is available digitally now.
