Meghan Trainor’s new single ‘No’ didn’t get off to the most auspicious of starts on the ARIA singles chart, beginning its top 100 chart journey at a lowly No.58 a couple of weeks back.
But its chart fortunes improved in its second week, jumping 38 places to No.20 and it’s now sitting just outside the top ten on the local iTunes chart.
Enter the official video for said single. A clip which, since it premiered overnight, has blasted through almost 1.3 million views.
It’s got a whole industrial thing going on, with our leading lady dressed in a metallic silver jacket, performing a choreographed dance routine with her backing dancers.
The song to us feels like a cross between one of those Max Martin megahits of the late ’90s and perhaps one of those late ’90s/early noughties R&B jams from the likes of Destiny’s Child, Mya et al.
‘No’ hasn’t quite packed the No.1 punch of a couple of its predecessors at this stage, but time will tell whether all this ’90s realness can get it over the line.
