Cyprus has endured somewhat of a checkered Eurovision history since joining the competition back in 1981.
Yes, they’ve finished fifth three times, but they placed last one year, withdrew from the competition in another and, since 2006, have failed to make the finals on six occasions and didn’t participate in 2014.
This year, it’s all down to rock outfit Minus One, who unsuccessfully competed against other acts to be the Cypriot representative last year, but they’ve been successful this year, heading to Stockholm to compete in the first of the semi finals, hoping to make it through to the pointy end of the competition.
‘Alter Ego’ is a solid and likeable rock number, with a pulsing bassline and even a little smidge of electronica in the choruses. But it has to be said that the key, the structure, the feel… it all sounds like a carbon copy of The Killers’ classic ‘Somebody Told Me’ to us. Check that out HERE after you’ve listened to ‘Alter Ego’. Still, dix points.
