Can you believe that it’s six long years since German songstress Lena won the competition with ‘Satellite’? Six years! It was one of only two occasions on which Germany has triumphed in the Eurovision competition (the previous occasion being back in 1982).
Germany is desperately hoping to rebuild after last year’s disaster, in which Ann Sophie came dead set last out of the 27 countries participating, earning a grand total of nil points. (If it makes them feel any better, Austria also scored nil points, but was one place higher, presumably because the list was alphabetised.
So can Jamie Lee and her single ‘Ghost’ rectify the situation and haunt the upper reaches of this year’s competition?
Jamie’s performance chops will be well-honed, seeing as she won last year’s German edition of ‘The Voice’ and the song will be familiar, given it was also her ‘Voice’ winner’s single.
It’s a pretty inoffensive pop ballad, with some good vocal points and an interesting costume. But is it fabulous enough to finish in the top ten this year? We’re not so sure. Six points.
