Norway’s done quite well for themselves in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Since first competing way back in 1960, they’ve won the whole thing three times, the latest being in 2009 (Alexander Rybak’s ‘Fairytale’).
They’ve also placed top ten on a number of occasions, but conversely have also come stone cold last 11 times; so it’s seems it’s mostly a case of all or bust.
Agnete Johnsen is tasked with bringing success to the Norwegian people in 2016. The 21 year old singer and reality TV star (who looks about 15) will perform the song ‘Icebreaker’ towards the end of the second semi final, to be held on May 12.
The song was co-penned with legendary British producer Ian Curnow, who’s previously worked with Kylie Minogue, Take That, East 17, Rick Astley, Bananarama, Boyzone etc etc, so the pop pedigree is there.
It’s a duplicitous beast… lulling you into the impression that it’s going to be a thumping big dance number throughout the verses, before exploding into a powerful, slower-tempo pop chorus.
It’s very Eurovision. It’s a bit unusual. It’s getting huit points from us.
