The boys from Masketta Fall are turning to their legion of fans across the country to provide the funds needed to create their long-awaited debut album.
Despite signing with the mighty Island Records Australia (who they’ve now split from) and a large and passionate social media following, the Melbourne-based band has yet to notch up their first mainstream chart hit (if just ten percent of those followers actually bought their singles in their first week of release, they’ve have notched up multiple chart successes by now).
So they’re turning to that same fanbase via a Kickstarter fundraising campaign to create the all-important album and it comes with a pretty ominous warning.
“The future of our band is in your hands and we simply cannot do this without your support,” the band said in a statement launching the campaign today.
“Long story short, we’ve parted ways with our record label. We had some great times with our label and they were great to work with, but we’ve parted ways it’s just us and you now guys!
“We are now back to being a 100% independent band. No label, no managers. We’re now free to release the album we’ve been writing over the past two years. But, this is also means that we have to pay… And unfortunately for us, releasing music isn’t free.
“If we as a band were in the position to, we’d without even thinking about it fund and release the music ourselves (as we’ve done before), however unfortunately that’s not the case.
“As a band, and personally, we’ve spent the last two years together at a big financial loss. This is ok – we’re doing what we love – BUT the only way we can release the album is with your help.”
The band is hoping to raise at least $10,000 over the next 27 days, with almost $2000 already pledged.
