Garbage lead singer Shirley Manson said of the band’s forthcoming sixth studio album ‘Strange Little Birds’, “this record has the most to do with the first record, rather than any of the previous records. It’s getting back to that beginner’s headspace. In part, that’s a result of not having anyone to answer to. The guiding principle was keeping it fresh, and relying on instinct both lyrically and musically.”
And its lead single ‘Empty’, the video for which premiered overnight Australian time, certainly feels like a return to form.
Yes, the band’s rock elements are there, but there’s a certain pop sensibility to ‘Empty’, missing from Garbage tracks in recent years, that may even earn them a place on commercial radio networks.
It harks back to the band’s classic numbers like ‘I Think I’m Paranoid’, ‘Queer’ and ‘Special’. And, for our money, that’s a very good thing indeed.

Ugh cannot wait for this. I really hope they tour this time not at a festival!
