From the Queensland tropics to the stages of Munich… Townsville native Luke Antony is certainly making all the right moves.
His new single ‘Separate Ways’ has just arrived, he has a debut EP due later in the year and has scored the headline billing at the upcoming Munich Pride Festival, at which ‘Separate Ways’ is the official theme song.
“I wanted to do something which had a bit of a funk/house flavour to it, but was also a great pop song as well,” Luke says of the track. “It’s about finding love and chasing your dreams in the big city inspired by my own experiences. I fell in love back home in the Queensland Tropics. But I ultimately made the decision to let that go in order to chase my musical dreams. The two don’t always come together. I had to sacrifice love for career. You only get one chance at this life.”
He’s also donating 50% of the net profits generated by its sales to the Munich Pride Festival, giving the love in return.
With the federal election coming up over the weekend and marriage equality presenting as one of the defining topics of this year’s campaign, the ‘Separate Ways’ music video (below) is topical.
“It basically depicts a love story between two girls and I’m the narrator,” Luke explains. “In the video I chose to represent love and equality in a way that may not be relevant to everyone. But that doesn’t mean it’s any less real. Whether it’s a love story between a man and man, woman and woman, or man and woman – love is love.”
‘Separate Ways’ will be released digitally (ironically) on election day; maybe a chance to grab it from your digital music provider while waiting in the voting queue…?
