You can count on one finger how many hits Scottish songstress KT Tunstall has had here in Australia.
‘Suddenly I See’ was a massive top ten hit for the singer here, albeit almost two years after its original release, all thanks to its use in the promotional campaign for hit TV comedy ‘Ugly Betty’.
But apart from that… nothing. Even her last two albums haven’t even made an impact on the Australian charts whatsoever, so no doubt she’ll have her pinkies crossed to change all that with ‘Kin’, her fifth studio set, due for release in September.
And though it maybe only three years since her last LP release, it’s only two years since she decided to hang up her hat as a performance artist.
“As an artist I feel like I died,” she says in a statement. “I stopped. I gave up. I didn’t want to do it anymore.
“The truth is, I’ve finally made peace with being a pop songwriter. This record was very much embracing my dharma as an artist, which is to write positive songs that have muscle, but also show their vulnerability.”
Aussie chart favourite James Bay guest stars on ‘Two Way’; one of eleven new songs, also including ‘Maybe It’s A Good Thing’ and ‘Evil Eye’, both of which are available as grat tracks with the album pre-order.
It’s out on Friday September 09.
