Rihanna’s diverted away from her brand of edgy R&B/pop on her latest album ‘Anti’ to deliver something altogether different in ‘Sledgehammer’, the lead single from the forthcoming ‘Star Trek’ soundtrack.
It’s a pretty decent ballad, it has to be said, and the Sia influences are unmistakeable and undeniable (one could almost picture her singing it in Ri Ri’s place). In fact, combine the Sia penmanship with the clout of Rihanna and you’ll be hearing plenty of this on your nearest commercial radio network in the weeks ahead.
And, as could be predicted from a clip tying itself to a ‘Star Trek’ movie, there’s a real futuristic outer space theme running right throughout it, all despite no movie footage actually making the cut.
Fans will have to wait ’til Thursday July 21 when the movie hits cinemas in Australia.
