Anthony Callea’s got plenty to celebrate, confirming he’s going back to where it all began with his new album ‘Backbone’.
Due in the middle of next month, the Melbourne-based singer’s sixth album sees him going back to where he began – Sony Music Australia, with whom he signed after winning the ‘Idol’ competition 12 long years ago.
“I’m so fortunate that Denis Handlin and Sony Music have embraced my idea of ‘Backbone’ and allowed me to make this exciting album with them,” Anthony said in a statement.
“In this day and age, recording every instrument absolutely live and real without any sequenced sounds is rare and exciting! I am so proud that we have been able to do this and I have been a part of the recording process every step of the way.
“With ‘Backbone’, we have explored songs that we all know and love – and we’ve been able to get to the core of these songs, their lyrics and melody, bringing them to the surface with organic and creative musical instrumentation and vocal delivery.
“I wrote the title track when I was in Los Angeles, and it sums up the essence of this album. It’s been an absolute joy putting ‘Backbone’ together with James (Bachelor Girl’s James Roche) and my musicians, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone and bring it to life in September.”
To celebrate its release on September 16, Anthony has announced a run of live shows from the beginning of next month, giving audiences across the country their first taste of music from the new album.
It’s all so terribly exciting for Mister Callea, he might just have to squeeze in an espresso martini to celebrate. Just one, mind.
