You’ll no doubt recognise Tyler Glenn as the flamboyant frontman of US outfit Neon Trees, who had hits here a couple of years back with tracks such as ‘Everybody Talks’ and ‘Animal’.
But he’s now ready to set foot confidently into the solo sphere. And this time, it’s personal. Deeply so.
His debut solo record is entitled ‘Excommunication’; so named because his church – he was a member of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints – announced a new policy denouncing those in same sex marriages and disallowing their children from being baptised.
“This album is a break up record,” Tyler says of ‘Excommunication’. “It’s been liberating to find a greater sense of purpose, but it’s not been without its sadness. I wanted this album to feel the way it feels to have a crisis of faith. The highs, the lows, the dark and the light – with the end result being a paradigm shift. I feel liberated and more creative than ever. I thank God for that, whoever she is.”
Lead single ‘Shameless’ premiered less than 48 hours ago and is already gathering steam online. It’s a track about living his life without regret, without fear and with unadulterated freedom.
‘Excommunication’ is due to land on Friday October 21.
