We’ve never featured Irish outfit Bell X1 on the site before, but that hasn’t stopped our trusty reviewer David from checking out their new album.
The band already counts Ed Sheeran and Hozier among their growing fanbase. Could David join them…?
This Irish band have been knocking about since the early 2000’s, but their latest release is getting a push internationally and there’s good reason why.
Their music fuses rock with electronic and edges into pop. It’s multi-layered, a bit quirky and reminds me a lot of something you’d hear from Vance Joy or Tom Odell.
Lead single ‘Out Of Love’ is a really interesting track because it feels slinky, sexy and gritty all at the same time.
That said, I think this band is lacking that cut through hit to get top 40 attention. I’m not sure that’s what they really want, however, and that’s okay.
I like their funky, left of centre approach.
VERDICT : 3/5.
MUST LISTEN : Bring Me A Fire King, I Go Where You Go, Out Of Love.
