The boys from Client Liaison certainly won’t need ‘Diplomatic Immunity’ from David’s review of their debut album; he thinks it’s ‘the business’.
When you consider an artist’s concept for their music project, it’s amazing how dedicated they often are. It often translates the music that one step further, so you as the listener are transported to a completely different world.
With Client Liaison’s debut album ‘Diplomatic Immunity’, you’re transported right back to the ’80s; into a world full of layered synths, echoey vocals and shoulder pads.
Yes the lads from Client Liaison look like they are straight out of the 1980s workplace. And that was the intention.
Now as much as I feel like they’ve taken the ’80s vibe a touch too literal for the visuals here, the music speaks for itself.
From start to finish, the boys don’t put a foot wrong.
Album opener ‘Canberra Won’t Be Calling Tonight’, features a sound bite from question time in parliament, all mixed in with some great beats, synths and catchy melodies. It sets the tone for what’s to come across the rest of the album.
The tracks that follow are absolutely exquisite pop tunes; lead single ‘Wild Life’ is a funky tune with a funky (and very ’80s) video to accompany it. With a great baseline, it’s easy to find yourself tapping along to the beat and would make a great song for a number of occasions.
Three songs in and Client Liaison have hit gold with ‘A Foreign Affair’. Featuring some airy yet powerful vocals from Tina Arena, it dances between being lush and heavenly. If this isn’t the next single, I will be devastated. I can’t wait to see what visual they have in mind for this; I feel some big hair for Tina Arena coming on though!
I honestly could carry on all day about how good the songs are here, but instead I think you should find out for yourself.
Get out there and support a cracking pop act by purchasing this album.
We could have an album of the year contender right here!
VERDICT : 5/5.
MUST LISTEN : Canberra Won’t Be Calling Tonight, A Foreign Affair, World Of Our Love.
