It’s time once again to break out our Single Of The Year countdown. And 2016 threw up some proper pop gems.
So throughout what’s left of 2016, we’ll shine a light on those songs that we reckon were some of the year’s best.
We’ll also give you the chance to have your say once our countdown is all wrapped!
But we kick off with No.10 and a song that brought our country together back in May this year; Dami Im’s ‘Sound Of Silence’.
For the second year in succession, Australia was invited to be part of the Eurovision Song Contest. And for the second year in succession, (thanks no doubt to a bit of cash thrown in the competition’s direction) we sent a Sony artist to represent us.
Dami came prepared; armed with a belter of a single in ‘Sound Of Silence’.
Penned by the DNA boys (Anthony Egizii and David Musumeci), the song showcased Dami’s vocals superbly. It was dark, brooding and perfect for the Eurovision competition. So much so that Ms Im ultimately placed second and the DNA boys picked up the Songwriter’s Award for it.
Sadly things got a little muddled for Dami back here at home. While she had a cracking original single to push, she didn’t have another one to follow it up to capitalise on her Eurovision success, instead resorting to falling back on her Carpenters covers album.
But it was a great song, a great moment and she did us proud… so Dami Im’s ‘Sound Of Silence’ gets our nod for No.10 Pop Single Of 2016.
