So here we are… the pointy end of our Pop Single Of 2016 countdown and our No.1 Pop Single Of the year.
We love a good comeback story as much as the next person here at auspOp and in 2016, we witnessed the return of one of the ’90s most beloved pop acts.
It might have been ten long years after their last reboot, but with ‘One Strike’, British girl group All Saints proved they’d lost none of their magic.
They revealed around the time of its release of that their 2006 single ‘Rock Steady’ and the subsequent album ‘Studio 1’ were rushed and ultimately not up to scratch.
But ‘One Strike’ was pretty magical.
Co-penned by the group’s Shaznay Lewis (who branched out on her own solo career for a time) and featuring a succession of cool tribal beats and the girls’ trademark harmonies and vocal layering, it was so very new, yet so incredibly familiar.
Though not commercially successful and criminally ignored by the mainstream media just about everywhere, we’re calling it… All Saints’ ‘One Strike’ is our No.1 Pop Single of 2016.
