For only the second year, Australia will compete in the semi final phase of Eurovision 2017; a familiar face tasked with success.
Australia’s involvement with the Eurovision Song Contest began in earnest in 2014, when Jessica Mauboy was invited to perform prior to voting at the Grand Final.
In 2015, Australia participated in the competition for the first time; Guy Sebastian was selected to woo Europe with his catchy single ‘Tonight Again’. He placed top five.
Last year, Dami Im won her semi final with ‘Sound Of Silence’ and finished second overall behind eventual winner Jamala from Ukraine. The track itself, however, won the Marcel Bezençon Award in the composer category.
Another Sony stable star, Isaiah Firebrace, gets the chance to deliver Eurovision glory to us this year.
The former ‘X Factor’ winner has made no secret of his Eurovision desires, bringing it up in numerous interviews, including our own on the heels of his ‘X Factor’ win last year (HERE).
Isaiah will perform in the first of the semi finals – on Tuesday May 09 – and chances are currently strong that he’ll sail through the voting process to make the Grand Final four nights later.
We don’t think he has what it takes to win – and the song itself is no ‘Sound Of Silence’ – but he’ll shine on the stage of the Europe’s biggest song competition.
