28 year old performer Hovig Demirjian will represent Cyprus at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest.
We’re now little more than a month out from the start of this year’s competition and the Cypriots will be hoping for a better showing than in recent years.
Since 2004, Cyprus hasn’t placed in the top ten, has failed to qualify for the Grand Final on six occasions and didn’t even take part in 2014.
Can Hovig turn their fortunes around?
He’s certainly got form when it comes to TV singing competitions, having previously appeared on the Greek edition of ‘The X Factor’.
And he’s certainly got form when it comes to Eurovision, having competed to represent his country in 2010 and 2015.
But this is his time. This is his year. And he’ll be hoping that ‘Gravity’ will be the song to deliver his country glory.
Will it? Look, it’s an okay pop/R&B song. Think a little bit Zayn from One Direction and you’ll be pretty close to the mark.
Whether it makes it beyond the first semi final, however… that remains to be seen.
