History will repeat in 2017, as a familiar face takes the stage at the Eurovision Song Contest to represent Slovenia.
His name is Omar Naber and Eurovision devotees may recognise his face from the 2005 Ukrainian edition of the event.
Then, he performed the single ‘Stop’, but his run was halted in the semi finals.
Seemingly so enamoured with the Eurovision competition, he tried out for national selection again in 2009, 2011 and 2014.
12 years on, Omar finally gets the chance to return to Kiev to give it a second crack.
His single ‘On My Way’ has a real cinematic sound to it; it’s a big ballad, with dramatic production and sweeping strings.
There are also a number of big notes to get you drinking (if you’re playing along at home).
There’s a big disconnect with the music video, however; the fast-paced contemporary dance thing doesn’t quite gel.
There’s also seemingly a big disconnect with Eurovision fans; it’s currently placing last in the pre-competition odds.
That could, however, have more to do with him being jailed in 2011 for sexual assaulting a woman.
Cinq points.
