• Welcome to your Wednesday edition of The Purge. It’s Charlie Puth who kicks things off for us this week. After dropping it at digital providers on Friday, the US pop kid’s addictive new single ‘Attention’ was officially serviced to Australian media on Monday. Penned and produced by Charlie himself, we reckon it could be our new favourite single from the bright-eyed 25 year old.
• Following on from his performance of the track at the Logie Awards on Sunday night, James Blunt’s ‘Don’t Give Me Those Eyes’ was re-serviced to Australian media on Monday. The track was originally sent out in late March, but the Logies performance was the push-along the track needed; it hit the top ten on iTunes in the wake of the awards show.
• EMI alt-popsters Hey Violet have confirmed that their debut album will be released in the middle of June. It’s called ‘From The Outside’, it comprises 12 songs including new single ‘Break My Heart’, which is available alongside ‘Brand New Moves’, ‘Fuqboi’ and ‘Guys My Age’ as a grat track with the LP pre-order. “We have been writing and performing music together for over two years now and this album represents us finding our true sound as a band,” the band’s Rena Lovelis says. “The title, ‘From The Outside’, is a symbol of how we have grown and changed as people and as a band, now we’re ready for everyone to hear it.” Look for it at your favourite retailer on June 16.
• And for the fifth year, One Electric Day will return to the great lawn at Werribee Park in Melbourne’s western suburbs. The 2017 edition has been set down for Sunday November 26 and will feature some of Australia’s favourite performers; John Farnham, Daryl Braithwaite, Baby Animals, Diesel and 1927. “It’s become an important part of Melbourne music lovers annual calendars,” festival promoted Duane McDonald says in a statement. “We are excited to bring John Farnham back in 2017 to headline. When he last headlined One Electric Day in 2015, the festival sold-out in record time. After a sold-out season on the Red Hot Summer Tour he returns to Werribee for this special show alongside some incredible rock royalty.” Tickets are on sale this Monday, May 01.
