UK pop god Bright Light Bright Light is back in the habit, releasing his second ‘Cinematography’ EP.
Sir Rod Thomas has carved out a delicious little niche for himself on planet pop; cool retro-leaning pop albums, great songwriting, collaborations with Sir Elton John, fancy pants and, given he’s unsigned, the ability to do pretty much just about anything he wishes.
Yes, he’s not confined by record company ideals, so he’s able to release things like this, his second covers EP.
Like its predecessor (November’s ‘Cinematography’), ‘Cinematography 2 : Back In The Habit’ features six tracks plucked from movies.
Both contain songs that helped inspire his recent originals album ‘Choreography’. You following?
“I wanted to dig into some of the songs that inspired the more introspective and downbeat sides to ‘Choreography’ as well as the fiercer and more joy-filled parts,” he explains.
This time around, he takes on songs like Lisa Loeb’s classic ‘Stay (I Missed You)’ (from ‘Reality Bites’), Starship’s ’80s classic ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Me Now’ (from ‘Mannequin’) and Madonna’s cool ‘Causing A Commotion’ (from ‘Who’s That Girl?’).
‘Cinematography 2 : Back In The Habit’ is out now.
