Can you believe that one week from now, we’ll be just hours away from the start of the Eurovision 2017 competition?
Yes, the first semi final will kick off next Tuesday night (Wednesday morning our time) and Iceland will be there, hoping to win it all.
It’s one of 18 countries (including Australia) which will battle it out in the hope of securing passage to the Grand Final on May 13. Even qualifying for the Grand Final in 2017 will see a big upturn in Iceland’s fortunes in recent years.
On paper, songstress Svala seems an intriguing choice; a former bandmember, chart topper and dance music fan who’s already experienced considerable global success both solo and in her band. So successful has she been in her own right that she’s one of four judges on the Icelandic edition of ‘The Voice’.
But the tables (or should that be chairs?) will be turned next week as Svala takes on the challenge of becoming the contestant.
Luckily, she delivers the goods.
‘Paper’ is one of those effortlessly cool synth-pop tracks that wouldn’t sound out of place on albums of Scandinavian favourites like Robyn, Rebecca & Fiona, Tove Lo etc.
Naturally, we love it. Cross fingers this one performs well on the night.
