Portugal skipped last year’s competition and despite early hiccups, they’re back with a vengeance at Eurovision 2017.
No stranger to singing competitions, having performed on the Portuguese version of ‘Idol’, Salvador Sobral knows the game.
Though he placed seventh in that competition back in 2009, he’ll be hoping to do much better eight years on.
But health concerns have beset his appearance to now. He underwent surgery to repair two hernias earlier this year.
There have been persistent rumours of a heart condition. And he missed rehearsals over the weekend; his sister Luísa (who wrote the song (‘Amar Pelos Dois’) taking his place.
In fact, Salvador will only arrive in Kiev on May 07, just two days before he’s set to perform in the first semi final.
Luckily, his odds at this stage are pretty good.
Looking the video below, he seems like the most unlikely of stars. He seems almost reluctant to be there.
But that voice… Oh that voice. And that delivery… He’s something truly special.
Dix points.
