Truth is, it would seem like our reviewer David has developed a soft spot for the new London Grammar album.
Here’s his latest review for your reading pleasure…
Last week I had a dream where I was floating through the universe and there was music in the background that was playing soundtrack to my journey. I couldn’t place it at first, but the next morning when I switched on my music and London Grammar’s new album ‘Truth Is A Beautiful Thing’ came on, I realised it had been this album accompanying me through my dream.
That’s what’s beautiful about the London Grammar sound; it’s unequivocally beautiful.
I’ve always been attracted to the music of London Grammar thanks to the layered and lush sounds they use to create their stories.
They’re only two albums in, but their music is easily identifiable when it comes across your playlist. Their ambient and atmospheric tunes are a great soundtrack to a crazy day at work or to enjoy over a lazy long weekend (or evidently my dreams).
In the lead up to its release, several tracks were used as singles.
Interestingly, I found the first two quite boring.
But when you hear the opening to the title track (released as the third single/teaser track) you could hear that London Grammar were onto a good thing.
Follow up track ‘Oh Woman Oh Man’ has something both familiar and cutting edge with its arrangement and delivery.
My favourite song on the album, however, is ‘Hell To The Liars’ as it blends all the things I love in this kind of music.
One of the first things I love investigating as I listen to music is who the artists have worked with as writers or producers and for album two, London Grammar produced a lot for themselves. But seeing Paul Epworth’s name (Adele, Coldplay, Florence & The Machine) appear is exciting to see. I think that consistency and ability to draw amazing talent to their project meant it has been able to resonate with fans even more.
London Grammar are a band that many people have an affinity for and it’s easy to see why.
With their second album delivered and several live shows lined up, fans new and existing will be treated to some great performances over the months and years ahead.
VERDICT : 4/5.
MUST LISTEN : Oh Woman Oh Man, Hell To The Liars, Truth Is A Beautiful Thing.
