Little Mix dip their toes in the Latino/reggae waters with the ‘Reggaetón Lento’ video, released moments ago.
Naturally thanks to ‘Despacito’, the surprise hit from Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee (propelled to global smash status by the addition of Justin Bieber), everyone wants a piece of the Latino pie.
So the powers that be at Syco have seized on the opportunity to bring together two of their groups; Latin American boyband CNCO and UK girl group Little Mix.
And, like ‘Despacito’ previously, ‘Reggaetón Lento’ was a hit previously for the former in the LATAM market before being taken out into the wider world to see if it sticks.
It hasn’t yet, however. Here in Australia, for example, the track premiered at No.68 on the ARIA singles chart and dropped to No.78 the following week before exiting the ARIA top 100.
Could the music video reverse its chart fortunes?
Essentially it’s Little Mix standing on one side of a room making eyes at CNCO on the other; they exchange glances, winks, notes. But though the temperature seems to be feverish between the two groups, they never actually meet.
This seems to suggest the two groups couldn’t coordinate their respective diaries to actually be in the same venue at the same time.
