Some of Australia’s biggest music stars, including Daniel Johns, KLP and Montaigne, have come together for an Easybeats tribute EP.
To be released next month, the new five tracker will comprise cover versions of some of the iconic Aussie outfit’s biggest hits, including ‘Good Times’ and ‘Friday On My Mind’.
The campaign for the EP (due November 24) kicks off today with the release of a cover of ‘Hello, How Are You’ by Daniel Johns’ Boom Tish, an outfit he brought together for his shows at Vivid Live in Sydney earlier in the year.
“The Easybeats legacy is undeniable and Harry and George in particular created a blueprint of self-sufficiency for Australian musicians that is more relevant in 2017 than ever,” Daniel says.
“I remember seeing a quote from George Young where he said ‘Hello, How Are You’ was considered by many Easybeats fans an unwelcome departure from the band’s typical rock sound… I feel like I can relate to this statement. This is probably why the track is one of my favourite Easybeats songs and Boom Tish had a lot of fun working on it.”
The next track to go live will be KLP’s cover of ‘Good Times’, which is slated for release on Friday week.
Then comes The Bamboos and Montaigne’s reworking of ‘I’ll Make You Happy’ on November 17 before the rest of the EP (two covers of ‘Friday On My Mind’ by San Cisco and LDRU with Nicole Millar) drops on the 24th.
