Take a listen to ‘I Feel Nothing’ from New Zealand’s Openside, our first favourite pop moment of 2018.
To be honest, the track actually dropped in August last year, but it’s only now that the team at Warner here in Australia is jumping on board. And with very, very good reason.
To be honest, we can’t formulate words better than those featured in the bio for the track, which describes it as “an infectious masterclass in radiant pop that piles up its lyrical sass through one dynamic hook after another.”
“We’d been itching to get back into that production environment and figure out where the sound of the band was going next and we had so much fun writing it,” frontperson Possum says in a statement.
“We spent a lot of time sitting round listening to and talking about some of favourite songs for inspiration. So there’s a little bit of Halsey, the Weeknd and Calvin Harris in this one.”
We’re captured wholly by this… great hook, sublime vocals from Possum, awesome clip (filmed in the Mojave Desert, don’t you know?) and some of the most intriguing pop production we’ve heard in a while.
Straight into the ‘Best Of 2018’ pile with you, thanks ‘I Feel Nothing’.
