Is it really that time of the year already? Yes indeed it is… time for our Countdown To Eurovision 2018 to commence.
Each and every day in the days leading up to this year’s event in the Portuguese capital Lisbon, we’ll bring you our thoughts on one of the entrants in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Which songs hit? Which songs are a big miss?
We’re kicking proceedings off this year with a look at the Latvian entry.
And it’s 23 year old performer Laura Rizzotto who’ll have the hopes of her nation resting on her shoulders when she performs her song ‘Funny Girl’ in the second of the semi finals on Thursday May 10.
The track, of course, is no relation to the Barbra Streisand movie (and soundtrack) of the same name.
It is an original, it’s been penned and produced by Laura herself and, on current odds at least, it’s no guarantee of making it through to the final two nights later.
‘Funny Girl’ feels, in parts, a little like a cross between a Portishead track and a ‘Bond’ theme; some big stabs of strings. And some sweet vocals too.
We’re not sure it’s worthy of possibly dropping out of Grand Final contention, but it’s probably not going to win.
