25 years ago, you couldn’t turn on the radio without hearing Toni Braxon’s cool R&B jam/ballad ‘Breathe Again’.
Fast forward two and a half decades and you’re lucky to hear about her at all, let alone her glorious new single ‘As Long As I Live’.
And that’s a crying shame. Because this single really is something special.
Of course, ‘Breathe Again’ wasn’t the last time Toni triumphed on the charts down under; subsequent singles ‘You’re Makin’ Me High’ and the classic ‘Unbreak My Heart’ quickly followed, as did the punchy ‘He Wasn’t Man Enough’ (2000).
But radio’s been ignoring her since. And that’s a shame.
Because there were incredible tracks in the 2000s like ‘Yesterday‘ and the blistering 2010 shoulda-been-a-smash ‘Make My Heart‘.
No matter, Toni plugs along – as she should – and her latest single (and its video) is a cracker.
Lyrically dealing with a love lost and the fact that her heart breaks still for the one she’ll not get over for (yes, you guessed it) as long as she lives.
The production is top notch, the music video is stunning (some awesome choreography and cinematography to match).
‘As Long As I Live’ proves that Toni Braxton is still very much on her game.
