Vera Blue was arguably the breakout star of 2017.
After the release of her debut album ‘Perennial’, she scored five songs in this year’s Triple J Hottest 200 and made their coveted Album Of The Year List.
She’s just released the female pop anthem ‘Lady Powers’, so the time was right to sit down for a chat about it, her upcoming headline tour and the setlist for Groovin The Moo.
Vera Blue first came to prominence as 2013 ‘The Voice’ contestant Celia Pavey, who wowed fans on Team Delta.
After taking some time to find her sound, she re-emerged as Vera Blue with the much loved singles ‘Settle’ and ‘Hold’, both of which are included as bonus tracks on her debut album ‘Perennial’.
We featured the album, which also features 2017 hit singles ‘Mended’ and ‘Regular Touch’, when it was released in July (read our Pop Chat HERE).
In this chat, however, we talked about the importance of ‘Lady Powers’ and the impact of knowing your own strength as a person.
Vera talks about filming the video with special guest Kodie Shane in LA and how fun it was to connect with her on the day.
The single will be released as a ‘Power Ladies’ remix EP on April 13, featuring reworkings by all female DJ’s. Check out the music video below!
The 17 minute interview covers a range of other topics as well.
We talk about the dancing in the ‘Regular Touch’ music video and how the choreographer mirrored the dancing from her live sets.
We talk about the impact fashion has had on her image and working with the same stylist from day one of ‘The Voice’.
Vera also talks about why she named her album ‘Perennial’ and the story that it tells in how to gain strength from vulnerability.
Playing up to the ‘Lady Powers’ theme, Brad thought it would be fun to find some interesting female facts and put the questions to a multiple choice; What is the highest number of children born to one woman? How much is the richest woman alive worth? Which popular board game was created by a woman?
Feel free to play along to these questions and so much more! If you enjoyed the video below please make sure to like and comment on it.
