Finland debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest way back in 1961 and in that time they’ve won only once. Could 2018 be their year?
The year they did win, of course, was back in 2006 when hard rock outfit Lorde triumphed with their ‘Hard Rock Hallelujah’.
Going on the current odds, it’s highly unlikely, but Saara Aalto is punching above her weight with her single ‘Monsters’.
The track should easily sail past the semi final phase of the competition (Finland is due to compete in the first semi on May 08).
And it’s also done rather well in its home territory, peaking within the top 20 on the official Finnish chart.
‘Monsters’ is a fresh dance/pop single with those tropical flourishes that are pretty much everywhere now and the music video shows that the Finns know precisely the voting demographic they’re going after (think glitter beards, feathers and androgynous looks).
It’s a bit of camp fun! Dix points.
