Malta has been a part of the Eurovision Song Contest since 1971 and the best they’ve managed in that time is second (twice).
They’ve had a mixed bag in terms of results in recent years, but could 2018 bring about a change in fortunes?
Their contestant, 26 year old Christabelle Borg, certainly hopes so.
After repeated attempts to become her country’s representative in the competition, she’s finally been granted the chance this year. And she’ll be performing her single ‘Taboo’.
The track drips with commercial appeal; potentially the kind of song Lady Gaga might have released a few years back.
But can we talk about the clip?
Whereas Jess Mauboy gets a shallow pool and a cube of neon lights in a studio for a few thousand dollars, Christabelle gets a four minute Max Max-esque epic that looks as though it’s had some serious coin thrown at it.
It alone is enough for us to want to throw dix points in its direction.
