Aaah, but is it a new No.1 on the singles chart, which 5 Seconds Of Summer have been dominating?
Or is it a new No.1 on the albums chart, where 5 Seconds Of Summer debuted at No.1 last week?
Read on to find out…
SINGLES
It’s not here, that’s for sure.
The 5SOS boys continue their dominance of the ARIA singles chart with their latest single ‘Youngblood’. It’s shining brightly at No.1 for a sixth consecutive week, again holding all challengers at bay.
Its nearest competition this week comes from the Maroon 5 track ‘Girls Like You’, which is steady at No.2, albeit with a shiny new gold accreditation against it. This means it’s sold through in excess of 35,000 units in four short weeks… not bad going at all.
Post Malone is steady at No.3 with ‘Better Now’, while the sudden death of US rapper XXXTentacion sends his single ‘Sad!’ ever higher. It’s now up from a peak of No.8 to a new peak of No.4. How high could it go?
Billie Eilish’s ‘Lovely’ is also on the way up – this week from No.11 to complete the top five.
Clean Bandit hit the top ten with their new single ‘Solo’ (with Demi Lovato). That song improves from No.12 to No.7 and is just ahead of the week’s highest debut – XXXTentacion’s ‘Jocelyn Flores’ (No.8).
Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa’s ‘One Kiss’ might be down three to No.10, but it’s also just picked up a new double platinum accreditation, having sold in excess of 140,000 copies.
Juice WRLD’s ‘Lucid Dreams’ now have a golden tinge (No.14 to No.12), while XXXTentacion gets a third (and final) song inside this week’s ARIA top 20; ‘Changes’ leaping from No.34 to No.15.
There’s a surprisingly big drop for Khalid’s ‘Love Lies’, which has been hanging around the chart for a great number of weeks. It’s down 12 places to No.22 this week.
But heading in the right direction is Tiesto, Dzeko, Preme and Post Malone’s ‘Jackie Chan’ (No.44 to No.23).
Also up is the NOTD single ‘I Wanna Know’ (No.36 to No.26).
Kygo’s ‘Remind Me To Forget’ continues to falter, having been inside the top 10 a couple of weeks back. It’s down another 15 places to No.36 this week.
Conrad Sewell’s ‘Healing Hands’ continues to build, improving four places to now be within the top 40 (No.41 to No.37).
The new Jonas Blue single ‘Rise’ does precisely what the title suggests (No.66 to No.41), while the halo effect around the release of the new Panic! At The Disco album sees its latest single ‘High Hopes’ make it back into the top 100 at No.44, easily eclipsing its only other position in the top 100 (No.86 back on June 02).
King Princess is dethroned from the top 30; ‘Make My Bed’ tumbling 15 positions to No.45.
The new Demi Lovato solo single ‘Sober’ just makes it into the top 50 on debut (at No.50, don’t you know). The Carters with ‘Apeshit’, however, do not. It’s new at No.53.
Ariana Grande also joins the debut party this week, premiering in the No.60 position with ‘The Light Is Coming’ (alongside Nicki Minaj).
New Zealand singer Robinson scores a platinum certification (70,000 units) for ‘Nothing To Regret’ (No.57 to No.62), while Calum Scott’s ‘You Are The Reason’ is back on the wrong side of the top 50, slumping 27 places to No.64 now his performance on ‘The Voice’ is but a distant memory.
OneRepublic’s ‘Start Again’ is up to a new peak of No.67, but Shawn Mendes’ ‘Youth’ slumps 25 places to No.70. That said, he’ll take some solace from the fact it picks up a new gold certification for its troubles.
Shawn’s ‘Nervous’ also slides this week (No.65 to No.73), but his ‘Like To Be You’ re-enters the top 100 at a new peak of No.74 (eclipsing the track’s previous peak of No.78).
Calum Scott’s ‘Dancing On My Own’ is down 31 to No.80, Louis The Child and Wafia’s ‘Better Not’ re-enters at a new peak of No.88) and Kanye West’s ‘Yikes’ drops 27 more places to be at No.90.
Right down at the very bottom this week, there’s a No.92 debut for Cheat Codes x Little Mix’s ‘Only You’, a No.93 debut for Bebe Rexha’s ‘I’m A Mess’ and a 30 place drop for Kids See Ghosts’ ‘Reborn’ (No.64 to No.94).
‘The Voice’ winner Sam Perry’s debut single ‘Trust Myself’ drops out of the top 100 entirely having debuted last week at No.78.
ALBUMS
No second week No.1 love for 5SOS, unfortunately; the boys’ third album ‘Youngblood’ replaced in top spot by the new Panic! At The Disco album ‘Pray For The World’, which becomes the band’s second No.1 album in Australia, but their first in ten years.
It holds off a concerted challenger from the XXXTentacion album ‘?’, which leaps from No.5 to No.2, edging out ‘The Greatest Showman’ soundtrack (No.2 to No.3).
The rest of the top five is made up of the Post Malone and Ed Sheeran albums.
That leaves former No.1 holders 5 Seconds Of Summer down in position six, dropping from their perch atop the ARIA albums chart last week.
The No.10 position is straddled by a trio of new entries; No.9 belonging to Nine Inch Nails’ ‘Bad Witch’, No.10 is the domain of Luca Brasi’s ‘Stay’ and the No.11 is occupied on debut by Jack River’s new long player ‘Sugar Mountain’.
Dan + Shay join the debut party with their self-titled album in the No.15 position. It’s right ahead of a nine place jump for P!nk’s ‘Beautiful Trauma’, which will no doubt go higher when her tour of the same name touches down in Australia in the weeks ahead.
Bebe Rexha’s album ‘Expectations’ is the last of the top 20 debuts, entering the countdown at No.19.
Kids See Ghosts’ self-titled set drops another 13 places to No.26, but The Beatles are back, with a No.28 re-entry for their best-of collection ‘1’.
Just ahead of her Australian visit, P!nk’s best-of ‘Greatest Hits… So Far’ clicks over into nine times platinum territory, meaning it’s now sold in excess of 630,000 copies domestically.
Sheppard’s ‘Watching The Sky’ is down from No.21 to No.39, but Christina Aguilera’s ‘Liberation’ is down further, slumping from No.9 on debut to No.40.
‘The Best Of The Wiggles’ is up, however, from No.61 to No.41.
Bon Jovi’s best-of re-enters the top 100 at No.45, while AC/DC’s ‘Live’ and Bruno Mars’ ’24K Magic’ re-enter the top 50 (in positions 47 and 48 respectively).
One BJ in, one BJ out, however… Bon Jovi’s ‘This House Is Not For Sale’ vacating the top 50 (No.34 to No.51).
The Beach Boys’ latest album with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is down from No.32 to No.55, but the huge 47 place drop for the Jess & Matt album ‘Songs From The Village’ is a worry (No.11 to No.58).
There’s a 21 place drop for Five Finger Death Punch’s ‘And Justice For None’ (No.40 to No.61), a 25 place drop for the ‘Deadpool 2’ soundtrack and a new fifth platinum certification for the Foo Fighters best-of (No.75). It’s now sold more than 350,000 copies down under.
Jay Rock’s ‘Redemption’ is short-lived, plunging 40 places to No.77, while Jorja Smith’s ‘Lost & Found’ loses 28 positions in week three.
But the news really isn’t good for Mike Shinoda and his album ‘Post Traumatic’, which plummets a staggering 81 places from last week’s No.12 debut.
Even the drop from No.24 out of the top 100 for the Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever album ‘Hope Downs’ or the No.36 to out of the top 100 drop for Cosmo’s Midnight’s ‘What Comes Next’ come close.
Buddy Guy’s album ‘The Blues Is Alive And Well’ drops from No.45 on debut to disappearing from the top 100 entirely. Maybe the blues isn’t so alive and well after all…
