You’ve heard his hit single ‘Hurt Somebody’ with Julia Michaels. Now meet 21 year old singer-songwriter Noah Kahan.
Hailing from a small town in Vermont in the US, Noah’s smash single notched up three weeks as the No.1 played song on radio and amassed over 40 million streams on Spotify.
Signed to Republic Records Stateside, Noah released his debut EP earlier this year and just this week has dropped a new single titled ‘Come Down’.
Whilst in Australia on a whirlwind promotional visit recently, Noah performed to over a million viewers on ‘The Voice’, performed his first headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne and squeezed in some time with Brad at Universal Music’s Sydney HQ.
Noah reveals the inspiration behind ‘Hurt Somebody’ was that he wanted to hear a new perspective on break up songs and share the pain of being on the other side – for example, staying in relationships for years to avoid hurting the other.
He agreed that Julia brings another dimension to the track and that he would be behind the idea of a male duet with Hozier or our very own Dean Lewis – but he’s not convinced that people are keen on male duets.
He chose to do a literal interpretation of being in pain for the music video – shown in different scenarios such as stepping on a thumb tack, falling from a ladder and slipping on soap on the bathroom – hilariously pointing out that being half naked in front of eight 35 year old guys was a highlight while filming.
Noah gave us an exclusive about his new single ‘Come Down’ before its release last Friday, detailing a real life encounter he had in trying to settle down an anxious stranger who was having a panic attack.
Noah himself has lived with depression and anxiety his whole life and hopes that by being transparent through his music that he can help his fans with their mental health. He also spoke about the TV hit series ’13 Reasons Why’ and the tragedy that suicide has had on his life.
To lighten the mood slightly, we thought it would be fun to give Noah the chance to hypothetically ‘hurt somebody’; he gets to choose between two high-power celebrities.
Play along with pop culture couplings such as Katy vs Taylor, Selena vs Demi and Xtina vs Britney. Hope you enjoy!
