Straight from the “that wasn’t hard to see coming” files, Perth vocal looper Sam Perry has been crowned the winner of ‘The Voice’.
The performer was always among the early favourites to take out the competition, captivating audiences with his audition song, a cover of Prince’s classic ‘When Doves Cry’.
It wasn’t only the audience that was captivated, however; all four judges turned their chairs within 30 seconds of his audition.
He settled on Team Kelly for the duration of the competition. And his coach is among the first to sing his praises.
“I’m so thrilled for Sam, this is just the start of his musical journey,” Ms Rowland said in a statement. “I couldn’t be prouder of how hard he has worked to earn this and I cannot wait to see what comes next. Stay tuned!”
Sam has bagged a cash prize of $100,000, along with a record contract with Universal Music Australia.
The first fruit of that recording contract dropped late last night in the form of his debut single ‘Trust Myself’ (cover art above).
It was serviced to Australian media around 11:30pm, after the show had finished airing on the West Coast.
It’s currently top three on iTunes and is available through all digital service providers now.
