ARIA Chart Watch is back on your Saturday afternoon.
And in edition #481, while the No.1 spots on both charts are unchanged, there’s plenty of movement happening below.
Let’s not arse about, however. Let’s crack on and take a look.
SINGLES
Yes, the boys from 5 Seconds Of Summer are on top of the ARIA singles chart for an eighth successive week with their double platinum smash ‘Youngblood’.
And while Maroon 5 and Cardi B also remain unchanged (at No.2) with ‘Girls Like You’, there’s plenty of movement happening in the spots below.
Case in point is the No.15 to No.3 bullet for Drake’s ‘In My Feelings’. It displaces Drake’s ‘Don’t Matter To Me’ (with Michael Jackson) to the No.4 position, meaning 40% of the top five belongs to Drake, much as it did last week.
But there’s great news for another Aussie this week, with the new Dean Lewis single ‘Be Alright’ bulleting from its No.19 debut last week to No.5. Yes, TWO Australians in the Australian top ten! Whoever would’ve thunk it?
Clean Bandit and Demi Lovato’s ‘Solo’ dropped from seven to ten last week, but makes it back from ten to seven this week.
Juice WRLD’s ‘Lucid Dreams’ finally cracks the top ten (No.11 to No.8), while Israeli artist Dennis Lloyd also makes the top ten with his breakout hit ‘Nevermind’ (No.20 to No.10).
Now that XXXTentacion’s songs are finally easing and after the initial burst of interest around the new Drake tracks is subsiding, other songs are getting their time to shine.
Peking Duk’s ‘Reprisal’ is one benefitting this week. It leaps from No.24 to a new peak of No.12 and on current trajectory, could find itself a home within the ARIA top ten this time next week. But not only does the track reach a whole new peak, it does so with a whole new certification, achieving a gold certification (35,000 units sold).
Drake’s ‘Nice For What’ is down from No.7 to No.13, while his ‘Nonstop’ tumbles from No.5 to No.17.
Further down, there’s an eight place rise for the Martin Garrix/Khalid single ‘Ocean’ (No.26 to No.18) and a six place rise for NOTD ftg. Bia Miller’s ‘I Wanna Know’ (No.24 to No.19).
Drake’s ‘God’s Plan’, meantime, slides from No.8 to No.23.
The new Tiesto single is back in action. ‘Jackie Chan’ has made it as far as No.23 on the ARIA singles chart thus far, but buckled under the weight of all the new Drake entries last week. It’s rebounded, however, to No.24.
Jess Glynne’s ‘I’ll Be There’ continues its Australian ascent, jumping from No.35 to No.26. Ditto Jonas Blue’s ‘Rise’, which is doing precisely what it says on the box; rising from No.43 to No.27.
Nicki Minaj’s ‘Bed’ (with Ariana Grande) dropped from No.24 to No.38 last week, but it rebounds this week to No.29.
Hayden James’ single ‘Just Friends’ is also on its way back, lifting eleven places to No.30, just four places shy of its No.26 chart peak thus far.
Drake’s ‘Emotionless’ is down (No.12 to No.33), while his ‘I’m Upset’ is down from No.17 to No.35.
Slap bang in the middle of them both is a new triple platinum accreditation (210,000 copies sold)for Khalid and Normani’s ‘Love Lies’ (No.34).
Kygo and Imagine Dragons are up with ‘Born To Be Yours’ (No.49 to No.37); ditto Panic! At The Disco’s ‘High Hopes’ (No.48 to a new peak of No.38).
A$AP Rocky scores a gold certification for ‘Praise The Lord (Da Shine)’. It’s up four to No.42.
After dropping ten places last week, Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line’s ‘Meant To Be’ is back into the top 50, up 13 to No.43. Post Malone’s ‘Rockstar’ and Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’ are also back in the fifty, while the Ella Mai single ‘Boo’d Up’, which debuted at No.99 last week, rockets 53 places to No.46.
Just beyond the top 50 this week, The Carters (Jay Z & Beyoncé) rise six to a new peak of No.53 with their single ‘Apeshit’.
Post Malone is also on the up with ‘I Fall Apart (No.65 to No.54). But Drake takes a tumble, losing 28 places to No.56 with his track ‘Mob Ties’.
The Chainsmokers’ ‘Somebody’ leaps from No.76 to No.59 and Bebe Rexha’s ‘I’m A Mess’ is up to a new peak of No.62 (up 26 from No.88), but the Drake exodus continues; ‘Can’t Take A Joke’ slumping 34 places from last week’s No.36 debut.
Great news for Vance Joy, with a gold certification for ‘Saturday Sun’ (No.63) and there’s a No.76 re-entry for Ruel’s ‘Younger’ (a new peak).
But Drake suffers another big fall with ‘8 Out Of 10’, which plunges 52 places to No.79.
Drake’s ‘After Dark’ drops 24 to No.87, his ‘Talk Up’ plummets 55 to No.88. His other album tracks ‘Summer Games’, ‘Finesse’, ‘Peak’, ‘That’s How You Feel’, ‘Jaded’, ‘Blue Tint’, ‘Is There More’, ‘Ratchet Happy Birthday’, ‘Final Fantasy’ and ‘March 14’ are all gone from the top 100.
King Princess scores the last certification of the week, hitting platinum (70,000 units) with ‘Make My Bed’ (No.89).
Amazingly, apart from Drake, OneRepublic is the only other artist to drop out of the top 100 this week. Their single ‘Start Again’ was at No.97 last week.
ALBUMS
Despite almost all of Drake’s tracks dropping this week, his album ‘Scorpion’ holds onto its No.1 position for a second successive week.
‘The Greatest Showman’ soundtrack is up again (No.5 to No.2), after last week’s debuts by Florence & The Machine, The Rubens and Gorillaz in the Nos.2, 3 and 4 spots all fall. Ed Sheeran’s ‘÷’ also up (No.6 to No.3) as a result.
Florence & The Machine don’t fare too badly in the second week sales department; ‘High As Hope’ maintaining its top five berth (No.2 to No.4), with Post Malone’s ‘Beerbongs & Bentleys’ up from No.8 to No.5.
Now that her Australian tour in support of it is well underway, P!nk’s ‘Beautiful Trauma’ is flying in the top ten again, up from No.14 to No.6.
The Shawn Mendes album also improves (No.12 to No.8), while the week’s highest debut comes courtesy of Ms Celine Dion, whose album ‘The Best So Far… 2018 Tour Edition’ premieres at No.10.
The Hillsong Young & Free album ‘III’ edges three places higher than its No.15 debut last week.
It’s just ahead of the No.13 debut (unlucky for some) for the Odette album ‘To A Stranger’.
Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Appetite For Destruction’ is down from No.7 to No.14, while the Gorillaz album ‘The Now Now’ is now now in position 17, down 13 on last week’s debut.
Hillsong Worship’s ‘There Is More’ is up from No.65 to No.18, just ahead of a No.19 debut for Didirri’s ‘Measurements’.
British pop trio Years & Years might have hoped for a slightly higher debut than No.26 for their new long player ‘Palo Santo’ (watch this tumble next week), while Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Damn’ shifts 12 places higher to No.29.
Bebe Rexha’s album ‘Expectations’ might have plunged from No.19 to No.85 last week, but as a result of her Australian promotional visit (and that little instore at Parramatta), she’s up again to No.35.
Bullet For My Valentine feel the effects of ‘Gravity’, falling 28 places from last week’s No.10 debut.
But that fall pales into comparison with that for The Rubens’ album ‘Lo La Ru’, which is down 39 places, from No.3 on debut to No.42.
Judith Durham’s ‘So Much More’ shows it has more in the tank than a No.58 debut (up 12 to No.46), but the ‘ABBA Gold & More’ compilation falls 17 to No.47, despite the opening of the new ‘Mamma Mia’ movie and the opening of the ‘Mamma Mia’ musical in Melbourne this week.
The Carters also drop again; their album ‘Everything Is Love’ slumping 23 places to No.49.
Further down, the ’13 Reasons Why 2′ soundtrack drops from No.43 to No.66 and Dua Lipa’s self-titled set falls from No.57 to No.69. Kids See Ghosts’ album also continues to falter, losing another 23 places to No.71.
Ocean Alley’s ‘Chiaroscuro’ plunges 45 places to No.79 after re-entering the ARIA top 100 last week.
Sheppard also fall with ‘Watching The Sky’ (No.63 to No.92), P!nk’s now twelve times platinum (840,000 copies) ‘Funhouse’ is back in the top 100 at No.94 and Yungblud’s album ’21st Century Liability’ wraps the top 100 debut at No.97.
Pendulum’s ‘The Reworks’, which debuted at No.29 last week, takes a massive swing downwards, losing more than 71 places to be out of this week’s top 100.
