To celebrate the release of her latest single ‘Amnesia’, Brad shot through a selection of questions across to KLP.
And, after returning from her overseas commitments, she penned these all-important responses.
Q. How was your trip?!
A. Sooo good! It was a mixture of work and play. The first half I was writing loads of new music, then the second half was all pure holiday. It’s so important to take time out and escape the everyday grind.
Q. What were your highlights? The pictures looked incredible!
A. Writing in Berlin was a standout for me – I wrote a lot of dance music which felt great. I’ve been wanting to move back to dance world for a little while and the people I wrote with in Berlin were very much where my mind is at.
Q. Well done with ‘Amnesia’ – it is soo damn catchy! Please tell us about the track.
A. I wrote it about an experience i had that was so surreal and in the ‘moment’ – when it happened I thought, oh this memory is staying for good. There have definitely been times in my life that I’ve made mistakes or choices that I would like to try and forget ever happened – but when you find the good moments, you want those to stay around in your memory forever.
Q. The lyric video is funky! Is this what you had envisioned for the clip?
A. I can’t take credit for that at all – that was me sending the cover art to Ego and he then took it and ran with all the lyrical ideas to create the video. He is amazing at what he does!
Q. The ‘Carried Away’ video looked like a lot of fun to make. It’s directed by your brother who you also worked with on ‘Never Be The Same’. What’s your working relationship like?
A. Possibly like most brother/sister relationships haha. We know how to get on each others nerves – but at the same time as we both get older I think we work so much better together. He was amazing shooting the ‘Carried Away’ video – he’s so in control and has great visions for how he wants things to look.
Q. I feel that ‘Carried Away’ is one of your most accessible pop songs. Is this a direction you would like to continue in?
A. To be honest I don’t really think about it – I just make whatever feels right at the time. The music I have been writing recently is probably the opposite – it’s a bit more up tempo, dance… a little moodier perhaps. you’ll have to wait and hear :)
Q. Your track ‘Goh!’ with What So Not and Skrillex FINALLY got released. How are you finding the reaction? Nearly four million streams on Spotify ain’t too shabby…
A. Can you believe it!! That song has a whole life of its own – pretty happy it’s all officially out there now.
Q. Can we expect more high power collabs soon?
A. I hope so!
Q. Even though you’ve played a lot of gigs this year, please tell me we’ll be able to see you tearing it up soon?
A. I’m working on some shows for the rest of the year.. right now I’m focused on making music so need to get that out of the way then get on the road again!
Q. For fans who havent seen you play live before, what can they expect?
A. Fun, sweaty, singalongs
Q. What’s your strangest experience so far whilst touring?
A. How can I only name one! Hmmm I guess for me the strangest thing is the high and low of shows, then travelling solo a lot of the time. You’re either with a room full of people, or lonely. It’s pretty isolating at times.
Q. Do you feel that your next big release will be an EP or album?
A. Oooh can’t say yet :)
Q. What advice would you give to artists looking to catch a break?
A. I would say, here is my email, tell me everything you know! haha. There is no one way to do things, and even if you catch a break, you then have to sustain a career. It’s an ever evolving beast!
Q. Lastly, please reveal your favourite lyric from another artist
A. “Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream” John Lennon – ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’.
Q. Thanks for your time and we wish you a safe trip home!
