Missy Higgins has just released her latest special one (new single ‘Arrows’), at the same time confirming her best-of, ‘The Special Ones’.
The new album, of course, brings together Missy’s amazing back catalogue of singles, including the title track, ‘Scar’, ‘Ten Days’, ‘Steer’, ‘Futon Couch’, ‘Cemetery’ and many more.
But there are also other little previously unreleased gems, including her cover of ‘Throw Your Arms Around Me’ (live on the Ed Sheeran tour), the original demo of ‘All For Believing’ and new tracks ‘Run So Fast’ and ‘Arrows’.
It’s the latter’s duty to be lead single for this project.
According to her label, ‘Arrows’ was originally penned for Missy’s wedding. It was ultimately recorded just three days before she gave birth to her daughter in August.
“The lower register of my voice actually changes a bit when I’m pregnant, I guess it’s the hormones or something but, anyway, I wanted to take advantage of those temporary extra notes to record this song,” she explains. “We only just made it. A couple of days later and it would’ve had to be a duet with our little girl!”
Though ‘Arrows’ might not be especially commercial, it’s an utterly stunning song; there’s so much emotion and feeling wrapped up in the almost five minutes, it’s difficult not to be moved by Missy’s delivery (video below).
