We’ve been incredibly amiss by never previously featuring Cub Sport on auspOp. Today we make amends, with their new single ‘Sometimes’.
So it marks a new beginning for us in covering the band, but it also marks the beginning of a new chapter for Cub Sport.
See, ‘Sometimes’ is the first taste of the Brisbane four piece’s upcoming third album, which is due to land early in the new year.
It was penned while the band was slap-bang in the middle of the campaign for their previous album ‘BATS’.
And during a time in frontman Tim Nelson’s life where he’d just come out as gay and professed his love for fellow bandmember Sam Netterfield.
“It was really special for me seeing others relate and connect with my journey but it was a bit overwhelming at times too,” he recalls.
“Cub Sport is an entirely self-managed and independent group – so there was a lot of pressure handling everything while making myself so open and vulnerable – there were moments along the way where I was starting to feel pretty burnt out.”
All of those feelings and emotions have been compacted and pressurised into a sparkling pop diamond.
