Welcome to your latest edition of ARIA Chart Watch.
This week, it’s steady as she goes at No.1 on both the singles and albums charts.
But there’s some big movers, some groovers and a smattering of new entries to get your chops into.
So let’s away… ARIA Chart Watch #484 starts right here;
SINGLES
Yes, it’s once again Drake holding at No.1 on the ARIA singles chart.
His latest global hit ‘In My Feelings’ occupies the top spot down under for a third successive week, this week managing to hold off homegrown star Dean Lewis.
Dean’s latest single ‘Be Alright’ is now the biggest chart hit of his career thus far, easily eclipsing the No.12 chart peak of his triple platinum breakout monster ‘Waves’ back in 2016.
Not only is it Dean’s biggest hit, but it’s also the first certification of the week. It’s now gold, thanks to sales in excess of 35,000 units.
It’s swapped with 5 Seconds Of Summer’s ‘Youngblood’ (No.2 to No.3), with Maroon 5 steady at No.4 with ‘Girls Like You’.
But Benny Blanco’s on the charge with his breakout song ‘Eastside’. Featuring vocals from Halsey and Khalid, the track bounces from No.12 to a new peak of No.5.
But DJ Khaled’s ‘No Brainer’ is snapping at its heels; the week’s highest debut (at No.6) features vocals from Quavo, Chance The Rapper and superstar Justin Bieber.
And after debuting at No.52 last week, the 6ix9ine track ‘Fefe’ (with Nicki Minaj and Murda Beatz) rockets right into the top ten (No.52 to No.8).
The Jonas Blue single continues its ‘Rise’ (also gaining a gold accreditation this week), edging from No.16 to No.11.
Kygo and Imagine Dragons also goes gold this week, improving four places to a new peak of No.20.
Want another certification? How about a ‘Lovely’ platinum one (70,000 sales) for Billie Eilish and Khalid.
Panic! At The Disco continue to make ground with their single ‘High Hopes’. The band’s biggest hit in seven long years, the track improves from No.30 to No.24 this week.
But Amy Shark’s ‘I Said Hi’ is headed in the other direction as the buzz surrounding the release of her debut album begins to fade. It’s down ten from No.15 to No.25.
Good news for The Rubens, with their single ‘Never Ever’ spending its fifth week of ARIA chart action at No.30 (a new peak) and also garnering enough support to go gold.
Right behind it, however, is a bulleting new Zedd and Elley Duhé single (‘Happy Now’), which is up from No.64 on debut to No.31.
But Drake slides with ‘Don’t Matter To Me’ (No.18 to No.32).
George Ezra’s ‘Shotgun’ bullets (No.69 to No.37), Khalid’s ‘OTW’ is down 14 (to No.43) and Childish Gambino’s ‘Summertime Magic’ slides 15 to No.49.
The new Hilltop Hoods single ‘Clark Griswold’ scored a top 50 debut a couple of weeks back (No.48), but spent its second week down in the No.73 position. Week number three on the chart sees the track back in favour. And though not quite back up into the top 50 sphere just year, it’s well on the way again, improving from No.73 to No.52.
The new single for The Chainsmokers (‘Side Effects’) enters at No.61. Loud Luxury’s ‘Body’ is moving (No.74 to No.63), but Drake’s ‘I’m Upset’ slides a little more, losing 14 places to No.67.
Billie Eilish scores a gold certification for her single ‘Ocean Eyes’, though the song loses 17 places to No.77 this week; its Aussie chart peak was at No.58.
The David Guetta/Anne-Marie single ‘Don’t Leave Me Alone’ enters at No.79, The Chainsmokers’ ‘Somebody’ loses 20 (No.61 to No.81) as the new single starts to take hold and there’s a 22 place drop (No.62 to No.84) for The Carters’ ‘Apeshit’.
Kanye West’s ‘All Mine’ is all gone. Well… almost. It’s down 26 to No.85.
Ruel’s ‘Younger’ is back (No.92 on re-entry) and Alec Benjamin scores a No.93 debut for his single ‘Let Me Down Slowly’ no doubt thanks to our stellar recent INTERVIEW with him.
ALBUMS
No change atop the ARIA albums chart this week either, but it’s not Drake’s ‘Scorpion’ holding down under as it is in the US… No, it’s the soundtrack to the new movie ‘Mamma Mia : Here We Go Again’.
It’s No.1 for a second week, having replaced Amy Shark’s ‘Love Monster’ seven days ago.
Drake’s still not done, however; ‘Scorpion’ rising to No.2 this week at the expense of the soundtrack to ‘The Greatest Showman’.
With the superstar now in the country on her national tour, Celine Dion’s ‘The Best So Far… 2018 Tour Edition’ is flying high in the sales department.
In fact, its previous peak has been easily eclipsed this week; the album bulleting from No.11 to a new peak of No.4.
Amy Shark’s at five, Ed Sheeran’s at six and P!nk is at seven.
The week’s only new entry in the top ten comes courtesy of Adam Harvey’s ‘The Nashville Tapes’ (No.9).
Golden Features score the love with their new body of work ‘Sect’ (No.11 on debut) and Keith Urban’s ‘Graffiti U’ leaps from No.41 to No.14.
Take or leave it, but Tim Campbell’s new album ‘Electrifying ’80s : Stock Aitken Waterman’ premieres at a very ‘Respectable’ (see what we did there) No.15.
It’s followed by debuts at No.16 for Halestorm’s ‘Vicious’ and No.17 for The Screaming Jets’ ‘Gotcha Covered’. Denzel Curry joins the party of debuts, entering at No.27 with ‘TA1300’.
Kirsty Lee Akers is in at No.29 with ‘Under My Skin’.
The P!nk tour across the country results in her album ‘The Truth About Love’ soaring back into the top 50 (No.55 to No.38).
It’s closely followed by a No.40 debut for the new Daughtry album ‘Cage To Rattle’ and another for Aled Jones (‘One Voice : Believe’ No.42).
But Adam Brand’s best of – ‘Milestones… 20 Years’ – is already on the slide (No.18 to No.44).
Katy Perry’s ‘Witness’ is back in the top 100 (No.47 on re-entry) as the takes to the stage for her national tour.
P!nk’s ‘Funhouse’ is also back into the top 50 mix (No.52 to No.49), while there are debuts in positions 50 and 51 for RL Grime (‘Nova’) and Kenny Chesney (‘Songs For The Saints’) respectively.
The original ‘Mamma Mia’ soundtrack slides 22 to No.54, Ed Sheeran’s ‘+’ is down 22 to No.64 and Slim Dusty’s ‘The Very Best Of’ is down 17 to No.66.
Rise Against score a No.72 debut for ‘The Ghost Note Symphonies, Vol.1’.
P!nk’s back with ‘I’m Not Dead’ (No.82 on re-entry), but Lorde slides with ‘Melodrama’ (No.63 to No.85), as do The Carters with ‘Everything Is Love’ (No.56 to No.87).
Kendrick Lamar is also down with ‘Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City’ (No.68 to No.92); so too Odette with ‘Stranger’ (down a huge 46 places to No.95).
Gorillaz are also just about gone with their album ‘The Now Now’, which slumps 45 places to No.99.
