The all-important ARIA 2018 End Of Year charts have landed, giving us a little glimpse into Australians’ music buying habits across the past 12 months.
The big news is that Australia’s own 5 Seconds Of Summer has topped the 2018 singles chart with their beloved earworm ‘Youngblood’, which is certified six times platinum for sales in excess of 420,000 units.
“We’ve always said to be recognised in our home country is more special than anything,” the boys said upon hearing the result. “To have the number one song of 2018 is a very proud moment for this band. Thank you to everyone who has supported us and thank you Australia.”
Internationals Drake and Ed Sheeran follow, but there’s another Aussie in the top five.
The Dean Lewis track ‘Be Alright’ places as the No.4 most popular song down under last year and is certified four times platinum for sales in excess of 280,000 units.
Amy Shark was the next best Aussie; ‘I Said Hi’ landing at No.31.
The top of the 2018 ARIA 2018 End Of Year albums chart is dominated by soundtracks; ‘The Greatest Showman’ at No.1, ‘A Star Is Born’ at No.3 and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ at No.5.
Ed Sheeran and Post Malone making up the rest of the top five.
Amy Shark was best over on the albums side of things. Her album ‘Love Monster’ placing highest of all Aussies at No.14, followed closely behind by Vance Joy’s ‘Nation Of Two’ at No.18.
