As Australia battles through one of its most intense fire seasons on record, some of the country’s brightest musicians are lending a hand via a series of bushfire benefit concerts.
Current chart topper Tones And I was one of the first to confirm a benefit show. The ‘Dance Monkey’ singer will be performing a one-off gig at 170 Russell in Melbourne on January 28, with 100% of proceeds from both ticket and merchandise sales split between the Australian Red Cross, the RFS and the CFA.
Aussie actor John Waters has assembled a cast of big names for the ‘FireAid’ benefit concert at the Bong Bong Picnic Racecourse in Bowral on Friday January 24.
That concert features big name Aussie acts including Daryl Braithwaite, Megan Washington, John Paul Young, Jack Jones and Justine Clark, along with adopted son Leo Sayer and New Zealand songstress Margaret Urlich (will she be bobbing up to reprise her vocal rose in Daryl’s ‘The Horses’?). Net proceeds will go to Red Cross Bushfire Relief.
‘Down To Earth’ is a fire and climate relief concert to be held at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Wednesday February 26.
Headlined by Angus & Julia Stone, the benefit will also feature Tash Sultana, Thelma Plum, Briggs, Jack River, Ruby Fields and Gang Of Youths.
100% of profits will be donated to the Red Cross and WIRES (providing rehabilitation and rescue for native animals), along with Emergency Leaders For Climate Action, the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal and Firesticks Alliance Indigenous Corporation.
Also in Melbourne is the ‘Music That Matters’ bushfire benefit concert.
To be held at the Gasometer Hotel next Tuesday, that show will feature the likes of Julia Jacklin, GL, Harvey Sutherland, Good Morning, Eilish Gilligan and more.
100% of funds from this show will be donated to the RFS, CFA, WIRES and the Fire Relief Fund For First Nations Communities.
